Why CJN Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad Resigns
One of the most trending news today in Nigeria is the sudden resignation of Chief Justice of Nigeria, Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad.
There are several views or possible reasons why the CJN resigned.
Nationa Newspaper quoted the CJN media aide, Ahuraka Yusuf Isah to report that the CJN resigned on health ground.
“His media aide, Ahuraka Yusuf Isah confirmed this in a text statement a moment ago.
“Although Isah had earlier denied knowledge of the development, he said the next most senior Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola would be sworn-in later on Monday by President Mohammadu Buhari.
“The Nation learnt that Justice Muhammed came into his office earlier today, without his usual convoy of vehicles and security details.
“He stayed briefly and left, but has not returned till then, an official said.
“Justice Muhammad was also absent today at a training workshop for judges, organised by the National Judicial Institute (NJI) which he was expected to declare open”, Nation reports.
Another speculation had it that the CJN quickly resigned suddenly to save face over corruption and alleged stealing of money meant for personnel welfare.
People’s Gazette reported that about 14 Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria had last week petitioned the CJN over gross misconducts, corruption and other acts of embezzlement of public funds.
