Ihiala: Soldiers Take Over Police Station Seized By Unknown Gunmen In Orsumoghu
Heavily armed troops of the Nigerian Army with 4 armoured tanks and Armoured Personnel Carrier, APC invaded Orsumoghu town in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra state yesterday evening, took over the Nigeria Police Force custodian and operational building that have been under the control of unknown gunmen for months.
Residents said around 3 pm yesterday, they saw troops of Nigerian Army in large number with 4 armoured tanks and APC; moved through Ihiala-Orlu road and find their way within the community to Azia road which they plied through to Orsumoghu community and engaged in sporadic shooting, making residents and people suspected to be members of the unknown gunmen to flee.
It could not be ascertained if any body, innocent civilian or members of the unknown gunmen or soldiers were killed in the special military operation but houses and vehicles were burnt to ashes in the community.
Sources close to police said the unknown gunmen have been in control of the Police station in Orsumoghu and using the building as a base for months.
The sources also disclosed that men of the Nigeria Police Force deployed to Orsumoghu community for long have been sacked and they were reporting at the Ihiala Divisional Police Headquarters which also serves as the Ihiala Police Area Command office.
Asked if the police men can return to Orsumoghu, the sources said such may not be possible now.
